20 dead in a collision between a bus and an armored truck in South Africa | traffic news

At least 60 others were injured in the incident, which occurred late Monday in South Africa’s northern Limpopo province.

A head-on collision between a tour bus and a cash truck killed 20 people and injured at least 60 late Monday on a main road in South Africa’s northern Limpopo province.

Police divers were searching the river that runs along the highway “in search of people who may have been swept away,” the regional transport department said in a statement on Tuesday.

Following the crash, the tour bus overturned from the bridge on the N1 motorway into the river below, said ER24, an emergency medical service company, whose paramedics were at the scene.

“Three people were found dead by the roadside and 16 down by the river – all pronounced dead on arrival,” ER24 said in a statement.

“One patient, out of 69 passengers who were confirmed to have been taken to the hospital due to various injuries, has since died,” it said.

It was not immediately clear how many people the tourist bus was carrying.

ER24 said police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

The cause of the accident is being investigated, but heavy rains have been falling in the region in recent days, regional transport department spokesman Tidimalo Chuene told AFP.
