The Monster of the Opera is a 1961 Italian horror supernatural movie directed by Renato Polselli (Black Magic Rites; Mania; Delirium) from a screenplay co-written with Ernesto Gastaldi.
The film stars Marco Mariani, Giuseppe Addobbati and Barbara Hawards.
Though lensed in 1961, the movie had a troubled manufacturing and remained unreleased till 1964.
Initially conceived as a sequel to Polselli’s The Vampire and the Ballerina (1960), the movie had the working title “Il vampiro dell’opera” (“The Vampire of the Opera”), however due to a perceived diminishing curiosity in vampire movies, it was launched with mostro (“monster”) changing vampiro (“vampire”).
