“Ask him instead, he was playing with me”

Former Real Madrid forward Mesut Ozil gave a humorous answer to the question of what it was like to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for White people.

Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed his most successful spell as a footballer during his time at Real Madrid. He won a total of 16 trophies during his time in the Spanish capital, while establishing himself as one of the best players of all time.

The Portuguese icon also played with a number of world-class players during his nine-year stint with the White people. Among those with whom he shared the dressing room was the German striker Mesut Ozil.

Ozil, 34, was on the books of Real Madrid for a total of three years between 2010 and 2013. Namely, he played 149 games with Ronaldo in that period, and the pair even scored 39 times together.

As someone who has enjoyed Ronaldo’s company, Ozil was recently asked what it was like to play alongside the striker. The Istanbul Basaksehir man, however, was in a playful mood as he gave a witty reply. He said [via @MadridXtra on Twitter]:

“Ask him instead, he was playing with me.”

Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil helped Real Madrid win three trophies, including the La Liga title, between 2010 and 2013.

Mesut Ozil recently lashed out at Cristiano Ronaldo’s critics

Cristiano Ronaldo has been in the spotlight for various reasons in recent months. He particularly came under fire after criticizing Manchester United and their manager Erik ten Hag in an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

The Red Devils parted ways with the 37-year-old after the interview. Several pundits and former players have since criticized the player.

Mesut Ozil, however, was among those who continued to support Ronaldo. In December, he wrote on Twitter:

“I really don’t understand where this constant media negativity about Cristiano comes from. The media is just trying to get clicks and the pundits who are no longer careers just want to draw attention to his big name and try to make him look bad.”

I really don’t understand where this constant negativity from the media about Cristiano is coming from… The media is just trying to get clicks and experts who no longer have a career just want to draw attention to their big name and try to make him look bad…

He added:

“He’s about to turn 38 – so what’s the surprise that he’s no longer scoring 50 goals a season? Any football fan should be happy to have seen him play world-class football for 20 years.”

“I don’t think anyone from the new generation will be able to match his numbers. He will forever be in his category. Everyone should show more respect to one of the greatest athletes in the history of sports.”

It’s fair to say that Ronaldo is held in high esteem by his former Real Madrid team-mate.
