The Chiefs have already dealt with curses against the Eagles, and now it appears Drake has added the latest blow to their ability to win the Super Bowl. Drake is a huge sports fan and seems to follow every sporting event on the map.
However, in all sports, whenever he picked someone, they weren’t always so good after that. Now that the rapper has placed a $700K bet on the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Reid and his team may have reason to worry.
The Kansas City Chiefs were already reeling from the effects of the “passing yards” curse. Patrick Mahomes led the league in passing yards and is the seventh quarterback to reach the Super Bowl as the stat leader. Each of the previous six lost it.
What is the ‘Drake Curse?’ The Chiefs could be the next victim
So why should Kansas be worried about Drake betting on them? It all stems from the rapper’s inability to pick a winner. It even extends to people who have been seen with it and suffer an immediate loss of form.
In football, for example, he was seen with Jadon Sancho during his UK tour. The next day, Sancho and his Borussia Dortmund team were defeated by Bayern Munich 5-0. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also met the musician, then lost 1-0 to Everton with Arsenal the next day.
If the ‘Drake Curse’ was limited to only appearances with him, perhaps Chiefs players could try to avoid him like the plague in the coming days. But his involvement in the betting market, as he did here, seems to be enough to trigger the curse. NBA fans will recall that the Golden State Warriors faced the LeBron James-inspired Cleveland Cavaliers in four consecutive Finals series from 2015 to 2018. The Warriors won three of those four meetings, losing only in 2016.
As it turns out, in 2016, Drake made a bid for Golden State to become a champion. The only time they lost in those four years was when a musician bet on them. That they did so after taking a 3-1 lead in the seven-game series at one point is reason enough to worry about the power of this curse.
The last thing the Chiefs needed to worry about before going to the Super Bowl were side considerations like this. But considering how wrong the rapper has been over the years, the possibility of other forces at work here cannot be ruled out.
