ET star Henry Thomas has been arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) after passing out behind the wheel of a car.

The actor, who found fame as a 10-year-old playing Elliott in the hit Steven Spielberg movie, was arrested in Oregon, US, after the Tualatin Police Department received a tip off.

Police were contacted by a driver at around 8.30pm on Monday evening, who reported seeing a car stopped in the middle of a residential intersection.

Officers arrived on the scene to find Thomas passed out behind the wheel of his car.

It’s reported that they were forced to wake up the now 48-year-old.

According to TMZ, the car didn’t have the stench of alcohol, but Thomas, who is unrecognisable in his mugshot, was taken to the Washington County Jail on suspicion of intoxication after he showed off other signs of drinking.

The signs were not revealed by authorities.

Thomas was booked for a misdemeanour of driving under the influence.

It’s reported he is still in police custody.

Thomas is best known for his role as Elliott, a young boy who befriends an alien in 1982 movie ET: The Extra-Terrestrial.

The hit film surpassed Star War as the highest grossing of all time and is still a firm family favourite.

Although even big fans of the film might not have recognised young Elliott as he looks today.

The actor will be recognised these days for his role as the dad in Netflix horror hit The Haunting Of Hill House.

Thomas won the Best Actor in a Streaming Presentation prize at this year’s Saturn Awards for his role a Timothy Hutton.
