There is nothing more in sports than talking about general managers and team presidents. It is obvious that their work is crucial to the success of the organization. Only, no one really needs to know more than that. Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers was the leak of his contract negotiations journalists since the beginning of December, and yet no one cares.
I don’t know how much money Myers had to cash in to get The Athletic to write an entirely too long op-ed about “Why the Warriors are in danger of losing Bob Myers”, but that must have been a lot considering the publication of the sports insider this puff piece on Myers’ new podcast the same day.
Myers has a new podcast to promote
The longtime Dubs front office manager said there was no “epiphany” that prompted this unnecessary media piece; it’s “more self-examination.” Dude, if you want to do that, buy a journal. Your mind is not so complex that we need to listen to unscripted conversations with basketball personalities. Half of the guests Myers booked already have their own pods. Shit, everyone has a pod.
Myers’ podcast is Omaha Productions… production, because of course it is. More feats Peyton Manning setsthe more upset I get that he used my hometown to call hot routes and sponsor Pat McAfee. Who wants more content than office people? If the algorithm that suggests you podcasts throws up a “Lead By Example” show featuring some sports executive you’ve never heard speak before, you should reconsider your life decisions.
Delving into the details of the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference sounds like a great way to get out of a date you don’t want to go to. (If he’s into it, that’s an even bigger sign to turn and run.)

Splash Bros. revolutionized the NBA, not Golden State’s front office
Myers didn’t orchestrate a trade to move up and get Steph Curry. The all-time leading scorer fell to Golden State as Minnesota took two non-Curry point guards. Klay Thompson was selected at the end of the lottery; it was not a leap to choose him at the age of 11. And Myers wasn’t even there when they took Curry and was only an assistant GM when they took Thompson.
GM may have had a hand in the Hamptons meet and greet between Kevin Dedant, Steph, Klay and Draymond Green, but it wasn’t some brilliant ploy that KD came up with.
The Warriors, like every other NBA team, got a huge opportunity when the cap increased and had the players, personnel and championship window in place to lure Durant. Do you think the Trail Blazers were trying to overpay Meyers Leonard and Evan Turner instead of signing Slim Reaper? I mean, come on.
If Steve Kerr or a member of the Big Three was on the way from the Bay Area, that would be worth multiple leaked stories to The Athletic and a podcast or two. However, no one. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Hope. Fuck me for Bob. Retire, take a new job, get scammed by a hedge fund manager, I don’t care. Nervousness of this guy.
