Hilary Duff is reprising her of Lizzie McGuire.
The actress is set to return as the much-loved Disney character, now a 30-year-old woman navigating life as a millennial in New York City.
The hit series is being revived for the upcoming streaming platform Disney+.
Hilary will once again team up with the original series creator Terri Minsky to work on the show.
This is just the first project under a new overall deal Minsky has signed with the Disney Channel.
The reimagined version of the 2001 series will stay true to the original by featuring an animated version of Lizzie, who’ll offer up funny and revealing commentary to tell viewers what the character is really thinking.
The news was revealed at today’s D23 Expo, where Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer for Disney Channels Worldwide, was expected to talk about the series.
Hilary is currently starring in Darren Star’s hit TV Land comedy series Younger.
The show was recently renewed for a seventh series, but under a waiver granted by TV Land and Viacom, Hilary will be able to work on both Younger and the new Lizzie McGuire.
The original series followed 13-year-old Lizzie as she tried to fit in at school, get along with her friends and talk to cute boys.
It was a runaway global hit that turned Hilary into a huge TV and film star, as well as a triple-platinum-selling music artist.
It aired for four seasons on Disney Channel, between 2001 and 2004, and became the broadcaster’s highest-rated show.
It also saw the release of The Lizzie McGuire Movie in 2003. The film grossed a massive $55 million.
There were plans at the time to expand the franchise into a second movie and an ABC comedy series, but they were halted when negotiations between the young cast and Disney fell through.
Hilary is now 31 and recently got engaged to partner Matthew Koma.
The couple share baby daughter Banks Violet Blair, and Hilary is also mum to six-year-old Luca Comrie from a previous relationship.
