Karl Lagerfeld Designed a Luxury Apartment Complex in Taiwan
Not only was the late Karl Lagerfeld a creative genius in the world of fashion, his eye was also celebrated in the worlds of photography and interior design. It’s the latter that’s getting attention today as apartments designed by Lagerfeld towards the end of his life are finally coming to the market.
According to Bloomberg, a luxury apartment complex designed by Lagerfeld in Taiwan is nearing completion. The developer, Jut Group, first asked Lagerfeld to design the project — both interior and exterior — in 2012, and he accepted in 2014. The company’s hope was that women who love Lagerfeld’s clothes and accessories would be equally enamored of his interior design skills. “Women are the key decision makers when it comes to buying property,” Aaron Lee, vice chairman of Jut Group, told the publication. “If an apartment designed by Chanel’s creative director can win over the women, there will be demand for it once it’s built.”
Naturally, the Lagerfeld-designed homes come at a high price — the smallest units start at $1.1 million and penthouses are nearly $6 million — but that shouldn’t be a problem for the Taiwanese market. Bloomberg says the region has the “eighth-highest number of ultra-high net worth individuals in the world.”
The new Taiwan apartment complex is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
