A man named Tupac Shakur has been arrested in Tennessee for possession of meth.
But while a number of conspiracy theories claim the famous rapper didn’t actually die in 1996 and is still alive today, it’s unlikely this story will generate any new speculation.
Police in Tennessee have arrested a man named Tupac A Shakur after he was reportedly found in possession of methamphetamine and pulled a knife on officers, CNN reports.
This Tupac is a 40 year old white man with a goatee beard and tattoos on his neck, and obviously not the rapper who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in 1996.
If that Tupac was alive today he would be 48 years old.
Strangely, even the two men’s middle initials are the same.
The famous rapper’s middle name was Amaru.
The Johnson City Police Department is said to have received a call on Friday about Shakur, who had active warrants for his arrest from another department, according to a press release put out by police.
When officers arrived on the scene, they saw Shakur sitting inside a car and attempted to arrest him, but he pulled away and reached for his waistband.
He then turned towards officers with a knife before he was taken down.
Police then found a syringe and bags of meth in his possession, the release states.
Shakur was charged with aggravated assault, simple meth possession and having unlawful drug paraphernalia.
He is being held at Washington County Detention Centre on a $18,000 bail bond.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday afternoon.
Over the years, a number of theories about rapper Tupac faking his death have surfaced.
People claim to have seen him living in various remote places around the world and claim that he faked his death in a bid to escape fame.
One of the claims came from Suge Jacob Knight – son to Death Row Record’s Suge Knight, who was with Tupac when he was killed – who fuelled a conspiracy theory that the rapper wasn’t murdered in Las Vegas, and was last seen hiding in the Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur.
The CEO of OverKnight Entertainment posted a video and said: “From my source – Pac was last seen in a cave here. I’ll update some more.”
