Manchester United want to end ‘Cristiano Ronaldo wage rule’ as they consider big deal for Harry Kane

Manchester United want to scrap the ‘Cristiano Ronaldo wage rule’ as they pursue Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

As reported by The Daily Star, the Red Devils are ready to make an exception to the recently introduced ‘Cristiano Ronaldo wage rule’ in order to bring Kane to Old Trafford.

Manchester United recently imposed a de facto wage cap of £200,000 a week in a bid to bring harmony to the squad dubbed the ‘Cristiano Ronaldo wage rule’.

Before his contract with Cristiano Ronaldo was terminated, he was the highest paid player at Old Trafford with a salary of £385,000 a week.

However, the new policy has introduced a £200,000 wage cap, meaning current top earner David de Gea will have to take a significant pay cut if he signs a new deal.

However, Manchester United are said to be willing to waive the rule in order to secure the signature of England captain Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Star claim that the Red Devils are aware of the fact that Manchester City offered Kane a £375,000-a-week package when they tried to sign him in the summer of 2021.

On top of that, the Spurs striker would receive huge bonuses over the duration of his contract, along with a transfer fee estimated to be around £120m.

It is understood that Manchester United will need to spend a total of £300 million to secure the signature of Harry Kane.

The Red Devils are also aware that they would have to make an exception to the ‘Cristiano Ronaldo wage rule’ in order to tie Marcus Rashford down to a new deal.

The report claims Harry Kane is expected to inform Tottenham Hotspur of his desire to leave at the end of the season.

It has also been reported that Erik ten Hag’s side are also tracking Napoli striker Victor Osimhen as a target.

Harry Kane is among four Manchester United strikers shortlisted for the summer transfer window as they look to replace Cristiano Ronaldo

Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane is reportedly among the four names on Manchester United’s shortlist this summer as they look to bring in a new striker.

As reported by The Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have drawn up a shortlist of four players as they search for Ronaldo’s long-term successor.

News #Osimhen: It is still listed #MUFC but he is no longer the main transfer target in the summer. Biggest problem: Too expensive! Napoli wants more than 100 million euros. I’m told: Man Utd management are not willing to pay that price and are therefore looking for cheaper solutions. @SkySportDE 🇳🇬

The report claims that the other three names on their shortlist are Mohamed Kudus, Victor Osimhen and Goncalo Ramos.

The Red Devils signed Wout Werghorst from Burnley on loan earlier this month, but the Dutchman does not look like a long-term solution.
