Republicans are pushing for a ban on China buying American farmland

House Republicans are pushing to ban China from buying American farmland, calling it a matter of national security.

One concern is that if China taps into our food supply line, they could potentially try to starve parts of the country.

That may sound strange until you think about China’s history. The Chinese Communist Party was starving its own people.

‘They Could Literally Starve Us’: Republicans Push To Ban China From Buying US Farmland

House Republicans are pushing to ban any person or company linked to the Chinese Communist Party from buying farmland in the United States, an effort that is gaining traction on the Hill as lawmakers seek to retaliate against China over its spy balloon intrusion.

Reps. Dan Newhouse (R., Wash.) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R., Wash.), along with more than 40 cosponsors, proposed legislation last week that would ban any purchase of public or private agricultural property in the United States and its territories from by “non-resident aliens, foreign companies or any agent, trustee or fiduciary associated with the Government of the People’s Republic of China.”

The bill, known as the Agricultural Land Ban Act for the People’s Republic of China, would also bar those entities from participating in the Department of Agriculture’s programs…

“Imagine if the Chinese Communist Party had just one link of our food supply chain under their control, how quickly they could literally starve us,” Newhouse told the Washington Free Beacon. “In other countries, they invest, build infrastructure, control the sources of agricultural products. … We don’t want that to happen in the United States of America.”

This is a question that deserves more attention.

Communist China has no business buying American farmland.
