While Google search data is a good barometer, final results maybe not the most accurate when it comes to popularity. Many people look for teams other than their own for various reasons. Some fans may look for the Los Angeles Chargers, for example, based on a bet. Likewise, others might Google specific teams for fantasy football or during spring free agency and the NFL draft.

The Pittsburgh Steelers claimed only one state in this study, and it wasn’t Pennsylvania, where they live. Pittsburgh was the most searched NFL organization, according to Google Stats in West Virginia. The Philadelphia Eagles ruled Pennsylvania, along with Delaware and New Jersey. The Steelers are one of the biggest NFL brands in the country, so it would seem likely that they would be more popular. You can say the same for the Green Bay Packers, who also only won one state.

We’ll let you be the judge and see how accurate this study is and where they got it wrong and where they got it wrong.
