It’s been a full year since LVMH announced plans to revive the house of Patou, the French design house famous for its sporty looks in the 1920s and ’30s. Karl Lagerfeld and Jean-Paul Gaultier have helmed the brand at points in its history. But it shut down in 1987 after its then-designer, Christian Lacroix, left. Now, the house is back with its first collection in over 30 years. Designer Guillaume Henry previously said his version of the brand would be friendly, and would be priced at a mid-level range. “My friends say, I can’t find anything to wear — they want to invest in things they can wear all the time,” he told Vogue in June. “I’m so not an artist — I’m more like an artisan. I just want to dress girls with love.”

His debut collection for the house is certainly friendly, especially in ease of wear. The line of elevated everyday pieces has just enough of a fashion-y take to make things interesting. A particular item worth highlighting are the boxer-inspired high-top sneakers, especially the ones covered in embroidery. Henry has done an excellent job in addressing a growing sartorial market segment — modern workplaces. Power suits are far too formal for start-ups and WeWork settings, but being put together is still a must. And though it strongly leans towards being a youth-oriented line (the shorter skirts, the ruffled hems), when broken down by its individual pieces there seems to be something for everyone.
