Trump congratulated Ronna McDaniel after she won a contested election for RNC chair

President Donald Trump congratulated Ronna McDaniel after she won a contested election to chair the Republican National Committee.

This will be McDaniel’s fourth term in that position.

“Congratulations to Ronna McDaniel on her big WIN as RNC CHAIRMAN,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “Now we have to STOP THE DEMOCRATS FROM CHEATING THE ELECTIONS!”

McDaniel has reportedly argued that she is in the best position to prevent Trump from running as a third-party candidate if he loses the Republican nomination.

Most of the 168 voters who decided on the leadership of the party did not want to say whether they were Trump supporters or not.

USA Today reports, “in a survey of all 168 members of the RNC, The New York Times reported, “only four offered unabashed support for Mr. Trump’s 2024 campaign. Twenty said the former president should not be a party candidate. An additional 35 said they would like to see a large primary field or declined to state their views on Mr. Trump. The rest did not respond to messages.”

McDaniel received the support of roughly two-thirds of the electorate — 111 of 167 votes.

Harmeet Dhillon and Mike Lindell challenged her in the race.

“The results were not what we or hundreds of thousands of supporters across the country were hoping for, and I think the party will have to deal with that disconnect with the grassroots,” Dhillon told reporters after McDaniel’s victory was announced.
