Ryan McKenna became famous five years ago when he took a selfie with Justin Timberlake during halftime at Super Bowl LII. Now he’s back in the news, but not for the best of reasons.
According to TMZ, he was arrested the day before Super Bowl LVII on a felony charge. The arrest report says he was drunk and punched his friend at California Pizza Kitchen in a shopping center in Naples, Florida. Ryan got into an argument with a 15-year-old friend before getting up and swearing at his friend’s girlfriend.
Police tried to talk to the 15-year-old, but Ryan, who was drunk, kept interrupting them, to the point where officers had to calm him down and tell him to leave while they talked to the boy about it.
As mall security asked police to remove Ryan from the building, the police report says his behavior became aggressive and he tried to approach his 15-year-old friend. The policemen tried to calm him down, but the selfie kid continued to try to approach his friend, while he was moving his hands from the policemen’s chest.
Then the police handcuffed him. As he resisted, the policemen lowered him to the ground. He tried to resist again, but eventually gave up and put his hands behind his back, handcuffed.
His mother gave TMZ another version:
“(Ryan McKenna’s mom says) her son was NOT drunk and was just hanging out with his friends at CPK. She says one of Ryan’s friends pulled a chair out from under him and then he pushed the table over, trying to be funny.”
Who is Ryan McKenna?
He is a New England Patriots fan who became famous out of nowhere when he took a selfie with Justin Timberlake in front of over 100 million viewers during Timberlake’s Super Bowl LII halftime show.
McKenna was 13 at the time. Now 18 years old, after his selfie with Timberlake, he was able to take pictures with many other stars, including Shawn Mendes, Iggy Azalea and Hailey Bieber. But it all started with the Super Bowl halftime performance.
